About me

My name is Tina Smith, and I am a secondary education major at the University of South Alabama. I am 29 years old, and a native of Mobile, Al. I attended Auburn University after graduating high school in 2000, and decided to take a few semesters off after getting married and starting a family in 2003. A few semesters turned into 8 years, and after my divorce in 2010 I decided to go back to school. So in the summer of 2011 I started taking classes at South Alabama. My college experience this time is very different from my time spent at Auburn, not nearly as much fun but I am certainly getting more out of my classes. I have been blessed with two wonderful children, an 8 year old daughter (Madilyn) and a 2 year old son (Connor). I work part-time from home for the Hertz Corporation doing reservation sales, and am blessed to have a job I like and that works around my school schedule.
I love history, I have always found it fascinating...not boring like so many other people. I have wanted to be an educator for as long as I can remember, and hope to teach high school history. When I have time I like to read, actually I love to read. I enjoy reading biographies, books about history, and fictional books. I am a huge Harry Potter fan! I think the books are wonderfully written, and have read them all probably 10 times. I like to write, especially if I'm sad or upset, it's a great way for me to release anxiety. I am a huge college football fan, and I am very sad that once again the season is over. I also love to do arts and crafts, or do it yourself projects. I love being outdoors, except when it's cold. I do not like cold weather.
I am very proud of myself for going back to school, I know that it is the best way to support myself and my children. I hope to teach them that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.

Randy Pausch on Time Management video
I watched this video twice, and saved it in my favorites because I'm sure I will need to watch it again. Time Management has never been my friend, and although I have been doing much better at managing my time there is still work to be done. I really liked what he said about asking why is something on your to do list, and thinking what happens if I don't do it. It's about prioritizing your list. As I looked at my list for today, I noticed that I had doing this assignment, doing the laundry, reading required material for a class that meets tomorrow, and cleaning out the hall closet. If I don't do the laundry or clean out the closet, nothing happens. It will still be there tomorrow. If I don't read my material for class tomorrow, then I will be behind in that class. If I didn't start on this assignment, while I would still have time before it is due it would leave less time to complete the other assignments after this one.
Failing to plan, is planning to fail...this should be a bumper sticker, really. I also really liked what he said about you can't change a plan unless you have a plan, and about doing the hardest things first. If I go ahead and get done what I am dreading to do, then completing whatever else is on my list should be easy!
